In celebration of Christopher Columbus on this past October 12th Silvio’s Organic Ristorante e Pizzeria in conjunction with Dante Alighieri Society of Michigan and Slow Food organized a dinner event to provide reconstruction support funding for the town of Capodacqua di Arquata del Tronto devastated during the August 2016 earthquake in Italy.

Once again chefs Dan Vernia and Silvio Medoro teamed up to bring to Ann Arbor a themed dinner, which included pasta Amatriciana and dishes inspired in those aboard Christopher Columbus’ ships - Santa Maria, Niña and Pinta.

The funds collected during and after the event of 12 October 2016 are in position to be allocated to Association Capodacqua Viva for architectural restoration projects, cultural and social occasion.

The association's mission is to facilitate humanitarian activities in favor of populations affected by public calamities or other extraordinary events; promote and implement necessary initiatives to return to normality of the populations affected by earthquakes and natural disasters, ensuring the same every possible type of aid and assistance including through the provision of goods and services and to ensure in particular:

  • the socio-health care, charity, support for education and the education, university and post-graduate education in favor of orphans, of the components of the families of the victims and those otherwise involved in the earthquake or natural disaster;
  • economic and employment recovery of the craft, commercial, professional and agricultural suspended or interrupted as a result of disasters.
The Harvest Dinner and other donations totalled a sum to be paid in the amount of $6,286.

The Dante Alighieri Society of Michigan also announced that the funds for the scholarship, not assigned, will be donated to the FAI Italian Environment Fund.

The FAI is mobilized to Arquata del Tronto and participates in the drama of the population affected by the earthquake and wants to be a small step in the recovery. On behalf of Dante Alighieri the donation will be in the sum of $ 1,300.00.
